trash for cash

I have read a long time ago from a housekeeping magazine that one of the many things I can do as a mom is to hold a field trip/ arrange a sell-the-trash trip with my family but i never really thought i'd do it. Until one time I learned from a momlike me, Leany, that they actually do it! So we did it! Last Saturday, along with my hubby Benjo, our son and Mae, I sold our trash (collected at the back of our house for like a month) to a scrap buyer ...

trunkload of trash

Manong weighs our trash. It's P9.00/ kilo!

What a surprise sight! when I took this shot,
I laughed and said: Amon man lang ni gali! hehe! What a coincidence, the owner of the
scrap buyer shop has the same family name as mine! :)
For those who don't know, Badilla used to be my last name,
till Benjo swept me off my feet and married me 4 years ago =)
Unfortunately, I was not able to ask the owner if we were in some way blood related!
Sa sunod na lang, ah. hehehe

We got P79.00 for a few kilos of waste. I was so happy! Not because of that amount but because it was a good feeling knowing that in our own little way, we have prevented waste (especially the PLASTIC!) from going to wherever it might go had we not collected it. Now I am so inspired to know more about ZERO-WASTE management. Who knows? I might just be one advocate. This im thinking for the sake of my son and my coming kids' future. Would you like to join me?

congrats bibang!! that's a good start to really care for our environment. humans are fond of accumulating things only to end up as wastes tsk tsk tsk....good girl guid ka ya....here in our place malain lang buot mo if you look around...basura basura basura ang makita mo everywhere especially sa mga river tsk tsk tsk ....

i've always been concious of what i buy -- nga dapat wala plastic, styro, the like. pero like brando said, masubuan ka lang maglantaw sa palibot mo. pero subong, ti, daw may kalayo naman buli ko eh. i want to go ahead and learn ZERO WASTE MANAGEMENT.just last sat, reinee and i were so happy when we shopped at SM. we earned the green bag(i ought to blog about it, pero la pa time). once you have it, you'll be using it kada shop mo sa SM, and not their usual yellow plastic bags. i was all of a sudden hopeful nga ti, people are becoming more and more aware of this advocacy.

jb29: yes gid eh sometimes daw ma feel hopeless ka na. im even fearful for the future. pero i think its better if we take small steps at a time.. we, bloggers can actually do it.. maybe post often abt it.. (hehehe as if damo na readers) ryt now, another single step im taking is : i bought this big pot, where i place the biodegradables , mga hinagpatan sang utan, seeds, dahon, den ginapalata kag gina himo fertilizer sa amon super small na garden.. =) happy ko ah!

anabelya: thank you for teling me abt the green bag. i dont really like shopping in SM here in Cebu kay super damo tawo.. plus rujim doesnt like it there, gapakugos sya, unlike sa ayala nga ga dagyang , pero bec of that green bag, i think ma shop kami to next weekend ah =)

sige ma kampanya pa gid tA!

More power to the nth degree Mama Bebang! Am glad some folks there in your community are doing the best they can to improve and maintain a greener environment. Here in a vast city life where everything is thrown from plastics down to electronics and furnitures, you wont even believe theyre just throwing it because they don't need it or want it. Its a shame..but i do know there are a lot of non-profit agencies who are doing such recyclables. But on your part you are doing a great job by starting with your family! Kudos!
